welcome! well the person who said this is an "american sarouk" I would say is half right. This is what would be called a Mohajeran Sarouk, which is a little earlier. Age placement on this rug would be 1915-1925 I would guess. tough to tell without looking at it. on ebay this could get a couple bucks, but I wouldn't expect anything over a hundred bucks plus whatever "shipping and handling" cost game people play. Really is a pretty piece, if it were in really nice shape, this would be a very expensive carpet. Of course, wear and tear of oriental rugs can turn an otherwise "priceless" carpet into a yard sale special in no time. Again, very pretty piece, it is hand knotted, don't do anything to alter it, sell it as is if that's your intention, and best of luck. PS, do not trust google images to produce accurate results when looking for mohajeran sarouk. Emmett Eiland has an interesting post on the differences, his blog is internetrugs.com I believe it's here: http://www.internetrugs.com/blog/sarouk-type-persian-rugs/

great photos too by the way. Talk to dave info@rugrag.com he will verify the rug is hand knotted for you no cost: it looks like this http://www.rugrag.com/Authentic-Oriental-Rug-Verification.aspx?Seller=111111&InventoryNumber=1he'll give you an icon to post on your auction listing that gives a report card on the rug verifying it's made by hand, and not a machine made

my pleasure, be sure if you post this rug to mention it is not a "painted sarouk" which is a good thing, because these rugs show problems up close some new buyers might not notice. for more info go to : http://www.rugrag.com/post/Painted-andor-Chalked-Rugs.aspxto see what the verification icon looks like take a look at 1800 get a rugs post here: http://cgi.ebay.com/STYLISH-CRAFTY-TRIBAL-GEOMETRIC-6x9-KAZAK-RUG-SH6626_W0QQitemZ250281050966QQihZ015QQcategoryZ20584QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Wow, the link is very informative. I have learned a ton already... I had no idea so much information could be gotten from a rug. I am keeping notes on all of this for when I list these items. I cannot thank you enough for your help!

Thank you, RugPro, for the link to the estimator and to the auctions. I didn't link the auctions because I was afraid that would seem too much like soliciting. You guys really are the best! :)

Wow, the rugs actually did better than I thought... especially this one! I have you guys to thank for that! And here I originally thought this specific rug was trash. You guys are great and I plan to continue to check in from time to time to learn more. Thank you again for all the help and support! Sonja (atropine)
