...here are the complete photos from the "mystery rug"...
(I like animals!)

What do you think is a fair price for this rug? 4'1"x6'7" I just bought it, but don't know if I overpaid or not. KPSI 400

I think it's wool (kork) with silk highlights on cotton...was supposed to be wool on silk. I like the rug, but the seller lied about: origin, materials, kpsi, and estimated value. Not sure if I should return, as I like the silly design.

Srinagar rugs of this type usually use imported wool (NZ) on cotton warp and weft. Regular designs in this condition sell around 300 - 400 USD. Due to the unusual design I would estimate it at ca. 550 - 600 USD. I also like your rug, it is very nice since the design mixed persian and indian miniature painting designs. So it is a interesting rug for any collector.

I think your carpet is silk on silk. It is not the best quality silk - I think it's man made silk. Do not wash this piece; color will likely run. It costs about $450 to 500. I do not know how much you paid, but if you like the piece, keep the piece unless you paid over $1000. Good luck.

The wording up top does say "Kashmiran" (letters from right to left --- so this would be the last word in what appears up top).

Knot density isn't nearly as high as - say a Qom.

In my rug-buying days - I'd pick up something like this for about 4-500 USD.

I decided to keep the rug for the following reasons: I like the design and haven't been able to find another one like it. The dyes don't seem to run, as I took a wet washcloth and cleaned off a few surface stains and rubbed several of the different colors and it didn't let up any dye. The rug is very soft and feels great to walk on barefooted. I may have overpaid, but have no regrets; I try to learn from my mistakes.
