I have a small house and a large rug collection...I've moved from the floor to the walls (my new silk rugs), here are some of the methods I used. Velcro sewed onto muslin, hand stiched onto rug, other side sewed material to yardstick, bolted to wall (I hung 2 of the silk rugs this way). Next, I removed the curtians from a window, cut the curtains to use as a backing (to keep the sun from hitting the rug), sewed a canvas tube to slide the curtain rod into, sewed this onto the back of the rug. Makes the room dark, but with the light on, it looks nice. Lastly, I wanted a divider rug to be able to close off the bedroom from the livingroom (the doorway is too small for a door). I used a thick wood dowel, slipped a hollow metal tube over it, sewed the canvas to slip over the metal, sewed the rug to this...it is hung with chains, can easily be rolled up and down.
