I came upon this rug in Iraq. The salesman has quoted $1400 for the rug. He has explained to me that it is a very good deal and I won't find this quality anywhere else. He has said this rug is entirely hand made, natural dies with a cotton base and 100 percent silk pile. He has also told me that this rug is not from iran but made in Kashmir a state in India. There is a inspector stamping and certification of India on this. I am not sure what to make of this. I like the rug but I believe the price is very steep. I am glad that I have found this website just in time.

If you can't provide us with a picture, can you at least give us the size? Rugs sold as Kashmiri silks are sometimes actually made of "art silk" which is in fact mercerized cotton. If the rug is cotton, it won't be worth the same amount as silk. It is hard to get a bargain on rugs while abroad, especially if you're a novice rug buyer. If you really want to buy something while in Iraq, stick to wool rugs with a cotton foundation because you're less likely to get taken.
