If you buy a Ziegler like this in Germany (i come from) for a price of 2.900,- Euro, thats what 4.000,- USD are, you can say it was a good shot.

Kristen, we sell these rugs all the time. They are all the rage right now, and something like this would go for between $1700-$2500 in our shop, depending on the weave. These antique reproductions are very hot at the moment, but in terms of quality and construction, they are not as good as some of the more traditional, Iranian pieces that you can buy at the same price point. While these rugs have been holding their value for the past few years, the value of this type of rug is really at the mercy of the designer markets right now. I think for long term, it may not be the best investment.

But you might want to talk to Jahann and Sons if he's saying he can get a similar rug for $1700-2500. Even with shipping it could save you some money.

Price differences for rugs of this type are generally because of the tightness weave of the rugs or the country of origin. It may also be because of the color or pattern, or in some cases the brand (there are many designers out there producing this kind of rug). The price for these rugs can also be all over the place because they are available at upscale designer boutiques, through your decorator, at a department store, online, or at a brick and mortar rug shop. The overhead costs at these places varies greatly.

When I say 'antique reproduction,' I am referring to the color, style, etc. These rugs are made to look like turn of the century Oushak, Tabriz, Mahal and other rugs. The originals in good condition are about ten times the price of the reproductions. Perhaps not the best first rug purchase :) If you want the look, though, you can't beat the reproductions, as they very often hit the nail on the head when trying to capture the feel of those older rugs.

It looks like a good quality one so around $4000 would be a fairly good price.
