Dear Readers,

I'm writing to request someone's knowledge and experience in pricing older rugs. We had a tornado rip off part of our roof and my oriental rug got soaked. The compapny that helped with our restoration dried the rug then took it away to clean it. Now they say it's lost so I need a value for the rug before I go to have a discussion with them.

It was a 9x12, blues and beige 100% worsted wool pile Couristan Rug fro the Kashimar Colleciton. I purchased it in 1981 for approx. $1,000. The only damage it had was approximately 2 inch unraveling on the edge.

Thanking you in advance for anyone that can help.

hi, welcome to the forum, sorry to hear about your unfortunate situation. This looks like a machine made rug. I think I even recognize the design but can't remember the producer. either way, i don't think it's a particularly valuable rug. on craigslist, something like this in very good condition would probably not sell for more than a couple hundred dollars if it is what I think it is

The dog, on the other hand, looks priceless. Adorable!

http://www.couristan.com/ has a dealer locator button. You will probably have better luck talking to a long term dealer but I suspect that previously mentioned "couple of hundred dollars" will likely prevail.
Yes, these are machine made rugs. Many are axminster construction and will compare to Karastan but the Karastan brand *seems* to be more widely known with the general public and possibly carrying a little higher resale value because of that - possibly.
