I have yet to get the sophisication to know what features determine a rug's age.

I bought this 10X14 rug off Craigslist. The rug is from their mother's estate. The mother had been a world traveler and they think she might have got the rug in Turkey. They were sellng the rug for $50 due to cat scratching that happened while the rug was stored They also just needed the rug out.

The pile is good with no low spots, smells, or any other problems unless you scratch mark is a problem.

I include a picture of the scratching, but the knotting is still secure and the scrathing seems only surface.

I have also had trouble makng knot counts with the Turkish.

Therefore, what is it, what age, and does it have a fine knot count for this rug?

Hi btuma.

If it was an old Turkoman rug it would be helpful to see colors and design and weaving, selvages to determine its age.
But this one is from Pakistan and probably from the 80s. Chrome colors and turkish knots are characteristic for this type. Also cotton foundation. And speciall washed wool that makes it thin and vulnerable.
