I have been presented the opportunity to purchase a 7'4" X 4'4" (approximate) signed sadegh seirafian isfahan, circa 1947-1953. The seller is a private collector. The condition is perfect and i have reviewed the Seirafian website and the signature appears legitimate. THe design is center medallion, blue background red center medallion. I would appreciate to hear the boards opinion of the value of a peice of this type. I would be glad to post photos if anyone could give me some pointers on how attach photos to my posting.
Thank you,

Mike

May I ask how much the private collector is asking? Obviously a very fine upper tier rug. Congratulations on the opportunity. I am not the one to quote a price except to say this is the time to buy such a rug with prices so depressed. Good luck

Hello Mike.

This is a nice looking rug. Surely from Isfahan.

If the signature is authentic i cannot tell (although it looks like Serafian) On the background of the signature i can read: " Made for S. Serafian". This tell me the rug probably was made in a workshop of Sadegh Serafian.

There are some colors pointing the rug is older. But from 47-53 i will doubt. Why you are so sure it is from that time?

Hi Chris: thank you for the pointers on picture downloads. I believe the rug is from the 47- 53 time period based on the collector representation to me and the limited resources I can locate on Serafian carpets.in In my dealings with the collector I have found him to be very honest and candid The seller current asking price is $18,000.

Mike.

18.000,- is a normal shop price for a Serafian. The auctioneer price would be another.
I not often had a Serafian signed Isfahan in my hands. But i cannot remember the signature was also in english language. Please wait until some other guys take a look at it.

I think the price is too high. Even at Christies or Sothebys they hardly would have received half of the this price for this rug.
