Hi, I am hoping to sell two rugs that my parents brought from Iran approximately four years ago (rugs in new condition and never used). Unfortunately, they do not know much about the rugs and when I listed the rugs for sale I got a whole bunch of questions from people that I could not answer.

The smaller rug is 12'x8' and I was told it was 60 RAJ and silk. The larger rug is 14'x10' and also 60 RAJ. The two rugs look very similar. However, the ends of the larger rug (fringe) definitely have a courser feel to them than the smaller rug. I am getting questions about the two rugs on if both the pile and foundation are silk.

Please help me describe and value the two rugs. I plan on selling them. The attached pictures are divided into "small" and "large" for the smaller rug (12x8) and larger rug (14x10). Thanks!

Hello.

The rugs are from Tabriz, north Iran. They are from wool pile with silk highlights. The foundation is from cotton. If the knot density is 60Raj would make me wonder. I guess it is 50Raj. 60Raj means (in Europe) 60 knots on a length of 7 centimeter. These rugs are rather high in value. But you have to wait for other opinions of somebody who know the US market, i cannot tell you the prices.

these are good rugs. market doesnt like pastels too much, but that's how many of this type of tabriz were made. it's worthwhile to either have these looked at locally, or maybe have the online assessment done for these rugs. I would recommend having them looked at in person by a certified rug appraiser as this will be recognized by insurance.
