These are pictures of a rug that I bought from an Afghan trader while I was at a US Army Forward Operating Base near Pakistan. Let me know what you think, I can take additional pictures if desired, as well as email better quality pictures as well.

Looks like an Indian or Pakistan copy of an Afgani rug, hope you didn't pay much. Anyway welcome to the forum.
If it was Afgan it would be all wool and not be with a cotton foundation.

Thanks for replying, If i remember correctly I paid 40 or 50 for the rug in 2003. From the little bit of research that i did it looks like the rug is meant to depict the soviet withdrawal from afghanistan. However every other rug that shares that theme shows one route leaving afghanistan, a northern route off to the left (west). This rug depicts two routes (maybe it was done for symmetry). Additionally the rug lacks US inspired artwork, dating it prior to US involvement. Looking at the back of the rug it appears to be handmade, due to flaws and its coarse nature. If anyone has an inkling of a clue what the writing on the rug means I would be interested in knowing about it. Its possible that the language used in the writing could confirm its origin. Even if it is a copy of what would be deemed a true Afghan War rug, it is more of a keepsake from my time spent in Afghanistan. Thanks.

I have 2 Afgan rugs, and I think one does have a cotton foundation, but it is a high quality commercial rug. The cheap one is the old style, seems to have a high KPSI, but is on a wool foundation (advertised that way) and has "buckled". It is I think a big prayer rug probably for 3 people to pray on.
