I just picked this rug up from a very reliable and close personal friend... I havent even paid for it but I will need to in the next week or two... I'm a little overwhelmed at the amount of information surrounding these rugs... This one is apparently about 50+ yrs old, it was never on the floor and appears almost brand new. It is supposedly Georgian made, it is all authentic natural wool and dyes... I have spent hours looking through pictures of rugs to find a little more information but I havent seen anything exactly like it.. except the very popular border.. Any info or advice would be appreciated... It was different then any of the other rugs in the room and I was drawn to the blue and darker shades of red than the majority of rugs present at the time I picked it up.. it measures roughly 5x7 ft...

Hi Bostrom.
Yes, it looks like a 70 years old Karabagh. Weft and warps seems from wool. The colors are surely from later Anilin. And also it looks like mashine spun wool. All in all a good decorative rug.

Regardless of exact origin... ( I'm spending a yr in Georgia and just trying to pick up a few things from the area) I really just like this carpet! I havent payed for it yet, they are asking 850 USD for it... is this relatively decent or am I getting run over on this one? Thanks a lot for all the info ya'll provided too... Its all very interesting

Good question, beautiful rug. I'm curious to see what some of the old pros on here think about value...
Also for my own learning, what do you see from the pictures that indicate machine spun wool?

I am focused on old and antique rugs. I had a few Karabagh, Kazak and Shirwan in my hands. The difference between a good old rug and a newer one is the wool and its color. Handspun wool is as different to mashine spun wool like natural colors to chemical. Intensity meets flatness.

Hi Bostrom.
If this is your first rug it shouldnt cost more than 400,- USD. The rug is not a very collectible one. And for this price, 850,- USD, you will shurely get better catches. Wait a while before buying.

Nice rug but not really desirable by collectors. Looks like hand spun wool to me but mostly all chemical dyes maybe the reds are natural maybe some others. Armenians could have made that rug just about anywhere they didn't have to live in Georgia. If you want to spend that much for it think of it as retail but offer him $350 first.
