This carpet was sold to us as a "Beshiri" with a "Naksha" design. Is anyone familiar with this design? We paid around $300. for it 20 years ago. We had the fringe repaired twice and it is still worn as the picture shows. Otherwise it has no visible worn areas and is clean. If what they said at the time was right, it would be around 90 years old now. It has an area with "abrash" (actually a couple of areas!) and is narrower on one end than the other. We really liked this carpet and it was the first one we bought. It is very thin, much more so than any other we have.
So what do you think we might be able to ask for this one? Thanks again!

I edited this message after posting the pictures and after reading Netjim's comment. Thanks Netjim! I will look at the link you supplied after this . . .

The size of this carpet is 70" long by 41" wide on one end and by 46" wide on the other.

Assuming there will be pictures to follow.....(and what size please)....

I first notice the word "Naksha". Now maybe there is a pattern with this name but I first am drawn to the word as the name of a pattern drawing.....the drawing itself, not the pattern.

Rug maps (sometimes referred to as "cartoons") or a Naksha are still drawn by hand in many parts of India but many manufacturers have computer aided design programs that provide every detail needed for each pattern.

Thanks for the link and explanation about "Nakhsha". It would be strange if the seller (in Middle-East) said it was the design name! Could we have misunderstood the name. Perhaps it's something close in sound . . .
Who knows . . .

This turkmen rug, but it is not make in Turkmenistan. they made Ersari tribe who live in Iran, near the town of Gorgan. I think the carpet is made 30-40 years ago.

I always thought these rugs were made near Meshad. Looks older than 1970. I'd say about 1950 to 60.

Thanks for your comments Bukhara and Ed. I looked around the Internet for Ersari and Meshad carpets and found a carpet that I thought was similar but much larger (almost 12'x8').
You can see it at:

http://www.themagiccarpet.biz/I...Num=4&totalRows=168

They are asking $3800.

Do you agree that it is similar? And the big question, what do you think would be a good price to ask for our carpet? Thanks again.

Thank you bukhara. I would like to sell this carpet and have an interested buyer. I also payed for it to be shipped here to the U.S. I would like to ask for a reasonable price, enough for me and fair for the buyer. May I ask what range of price you would ask if this was your carpet?
Anyone else who would have an idea, your input would also be appreciated. Grateful for any suggestions.

My guess for this rug would be that it is a Afghan-Balouch rug in the style of a Bokara. It looks to be from the 1970s at the earliest, but that is just from what I can see in the pictures. "Bashiri" is a person who made certain types of Bokara rugs, but this particular rug isn't a Bashiri. "Nakhsheh" means design, but the term isn't used as a descriptor when referring to rugs unless the rug is a floral Tabriz.

I would use that price as a jumping off point, expecting to be bargained down by the customer. If someone offers you as much as $275, sell it.

Thanks for your reply. It's good to have the forum to check with to keep our expectations realistic. Good for us, good for the buyers. I hope to put another carpet up soon. Thanks to all the contributors here.
