Hi All, I brought this rug in Bahrain last year and was told that it was hand weaved and that it is silk. I am sure that the guy told me where it came from but I can't remember, but I am trying to find out some more information about it. Any help would be much appreciated. :) This link will take you to the pics rather than having to download them. RUG PICTURES

Noodles, not much pics of this rug. First guess is China silk.

Chris, I have added a few more to have a look at. I would be surprised if this was from China as I don't think I'd have brought it in that case, as I was looking for a rug from Iran or similiar.. Thanks for your comments though..

Ók. Now i can tell you exactly. It is a China rug. This kind is on the market called China silk...whether it is silk or cotton you only can search out with a burn test. Nothing to do with persian rugs.

I can see that this is from china by the design. How did you conclude ours is also from china? In terms of the material what is the most effective way of knowing? Thanks

Design is not the criterion to estimate a rug...less in new rugs. The yours do have all characteristics of a chinese rug. Weaving, selvadges, material. And colors.

I agree with Chris, although I really can see only one photo of the corner flipped up. This is Chinese - probably a reproduction in the spirit of a Hereke rug. I too agree, these rugs are often of the synthetic simulated silk variety. you're going to want to do a burn test to check. http://www.rugrag.com/post/Fibers.aspxThese don't go for much money. maybe $200 for a 3x5 at a retail store before a discount
