first off, sorry i can't get to the site as much as i'd like...a new working situtation prohibits excessive internet use...

...that being said, i have a potential find... seller states 1930s and appraised at 2500...selling for 1200. i've included a couple of craigslist pics and a couple more close-up that he sent me... it's 9x12...

did i find something worth looking into, rugpro???? i don't think the knot-count is very high...

Dancing Hey!

This is an interesting find. I can't quite date it, surprised by the "skirt" at one end. Seems like it would be worth looking into a bit more for sure. I mean the price seems right if all else checks out

Greetings from the Sarouk Lover.

First, if, by "the skirt,' Proalludes to what I came to think is called the kilim.....when it exists, the woven border from which the fringes emanate, I agree. I have never seen a vintage Sarouk made in (then) Persia bearing this. This is often seen on neo Sarouks made in India.....which this rug does not really appear to be re field or border design or construction. But if those are original fringes I will eat my laptop.

On the other hand, if the wefts are blue which it's not easy to determine, that would be a good sign. On the third hand, re colors, design, it does appear legit.......including, I might add, what appear to be many knotheads showing which would indicate some serious pile wear.

The low price, along with the soft market, may reflect there was some end loss and the kilim/skirt/fringes were added. I would like to see alkl the edges clearly.

Finally, KPSI in a fine vintage Sarouk ought not be a real concern. While often around 120, these carpets were made to last and are more impervious to damaging things than many rugs with higher KPSIs.

Correction, I think:

I just caught a small, and with holes issues, SEMI antique Sarouk offered on ebay by Joe Nevo. This man knows what he is doing and offers accurate, meticulous listings. Above, I say I doubt that the fringes on the Sarouk, subject of this thread are original because of the skirt-kilim. I was wrong. Joe's rug has these. What I now think is the rug is, in fact, all original, but most likely post WWII....semi antique-mid 20th century.http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5574716523&toolid=10001&campid=5336111917&customid=Forum&icep_item=110382495893&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg|

I rescind my offer to eat my laptop and will chase more data before making such an offer again. lol Dancing

Edit: I observe, not even in this abysmal economic climate, have the prices of really fine room sized antique Sarouks in excellent condition gone down. Manhattan co-ops, yes, fine antique Sarouks....no. i.e.:

http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/6417185 One must assume it really is pre war, the condition is excellent, not much pile wear and even pile wear, ends intact, etc. Naturally, anyone insterested must check re every single detail, buyer's fee and shipping will be added to the hammer price.
