RugPro, I certainly can not figure out pricing at least on ebay. Attached is an earlier rug I asked about purchasng. I was in reality the only person bidding on the rug (the owner was also bidding). I bought it for $600. Granted there were some danger signs, the seller had never sold a rug, the only description was "Eastern rug", and the pictures didn't show alot. All of these items might of kept bidders away. However, the seller did send the needed pictures when asked. Although I almost passed with the help of RugPro

The rug is a silk Hereke in the saph style. When you look at the pictures how does a 400kpsi silk prayer rug of this quality go for $600.. Is that the rug market in hard times. or a bad presentation by the seller? I also got a 4X6 brand new absolute beautiful and unique brand new silk Nain animal 400kpsi for $700 (the seller supposedly took over a store's inventory for non-payment of rent).

Everything aside what is this rug worth? Am I simply thinking I have something special (ofcourse it's special I love it, but special for raw price)?

Thanks

I don't have too much experience with this type of Hereke. The market has changed a great deal since I handled them but from what I have seen this is my opinion

Assuming the size above is excluding fringe, and given the rug is in perfect condition with no wear, stains, etc and going by previous pictures on the other thread.

I believe age would be late 70's maybe 80s+. I don't think it's newer than 20 years. Value for a rug of this design for retail maybe $1200 showroom some maybe more, some maybe less. Replacement for insurance maybe $2K. With these rugs the handle, structure, sheer, have a lot to do with the value. It's a very sweet little rug, a charming piece. It's important to remember colors and design may not appeal to everyone. However, purchasing for $600 is a good deal provided all else equal. Also, it is entirely possible if this rug was purchased overseas back in the 80's that someone could have paid several thousand for it.

Am sure all of the above re Pro is right. Plus, the word "charming" nails it, I think. I think I posted a link to this, below in yr original thread. I think you wit yr Rug Angels......are blessed. I also admire you hung in thru perceived chicanery. I doubt I could have; such phenomena DEFEAT ME. I have learned this first hand during my Rug Hunt.

Again, CONGRATS!! For amny reasons, bet this rug brings you joy for decades to come!

RugPro, I have become leary of many things that seller, without reputation, say about their rugs. I guess I go back to Reagan, "Trust but verify"
The seller said she bought it in Istanbul in 1985 for $6,000. Therefore, your analysis was spot on.

If someone offered my $1,600 for the rug today I wouldn't take it. I have been looking for a panel rug that could be hung, and if I sold it, I would just be looking for a replacement and I don't know if I could get better.

Also, I have to say my perception of worth was too high. I thought to a private party it would go for $1,600- $2,200. My point of reference is ebay were people have rugs for $6,000, but I need to consider they never sell either.
