Looking for any information to help me identify a quality Bijar. If anyone can attach photos of what the back of the rugs should look like and ideal number of knots for longest lasting rug. I have seen many that look poorly made, so any help on what to look for would be great. I know they are pricey, but only need a small size for heavy traffic area. Please anyone give me some lessons on these Iron Rugs. Thanks
Here is the back & front of a rug said to be a Bijar from the 30's.

I think you are confusing poorly made with lower density knotting and different technique of weaving. Bijars are known as steel carpets of Iran because they are very densely woven and very hard wearing. There are Bijar Garus, which are well woven but not as densely but have a lot more character.

This is an average density of a densely woven variety and you can take it from there.

Please note that density is only one aspect of the quality of a piece but there are many more factors, like wool, dyes, design, etc.

Thanks for the response. I read somewhere that true Bijar rugs the yarn is wet and tapped down during weaving, I thought this would make the knots look more compacted. Not sure what to look for.

One of the main features of some Bijars is the fact that they use heavy beaters and they do beat them hard to achieve the famous density that they have. Don't forget that the denser the carpet the heavier it is.
