Has anyone ever seen spots on the fringe of a silk carpet like the one in the pic?
Is this possibly a type of mold?
It is only on this one area of the carpet).

(I have careful treated it will rubbing alcohol and paint thinner on a q-tip...no change in color).

Any advice about what this might be? Thank you

It doesn't look like mould to me. I would take some warm water and soft soap, dip a toothbrush in it and rub the furthest point where the spots are from the carpet and if it goes then try the other spots.
