Is this a Moghan? Would you say that it has a Memling motif? Age? Dimensions are 3'2" x 6'10".

Thanks.

Hi,
I would call this a Gyanja (Latif Kerimov) or Gendje, Ganje which is noted for its reddish brownish center field, Octagon, stepped, hooked quadrangle, with Memling goels (star) in the middle of each quadrangle. Most are associated with the striped center field, but this one has stripes in its border. The Gendje area is adjacent to the Kazak area and was part of the area taken over by the Russians. The drdigns changed after the Russian. According to Brian MacDonald, Mohan have brown wefts and Genje's do not. What colors are your wefts. Age is 2nd quarter, 19th century.

Thank you for that thorough explanation, Cartona. The wefts are light brown.
