Hello! At the carpet market in Deira, Dubai, I recently bought what was sold to me as a Qum silk on silk rug that I plan to hang on my wall. Pictures attached. Dimensions are 6.56 ft by 4.33 ft (200x132cm). The vendor who sold it to me gave me a certificate that this is a Mir Mehdi rug with Med Ghabi design and kpsi of 1100. However, after reading this forum and doing the quarter measurement, the kpsi seems to be closer to 440. The local rug vendor in the US who is putting loops on the rug for me to hang them on the wall told me that this is indeed a Ghoum rug of Hatchlu style and Bhaktiari design. Can someone shed more light on the type of rug, design and what the signature says. Is this design unique? I paid about $4250 USD for this rug. Did I overpay?

It is a very fine silk Qum and you have bought it at a very good price. I have a feeling in the US you have to pay at least double that. It certainly is not a hatchlu design. It is a medallion design with element of the garden design or rather with square panels. As regard to the knot count the easiest way with such fine pieces is to put a tape measure on the back and take a good photo (like the one you have), zoom in and count the knot. That will give you a clear idea.

Thank you Sharafi & Co for your insight! I did finally hang it on the wall this past weekend and I enjoy it's beauty on the wall. I have some metal statues below the rug and the rug seems to be picking up a golden sheen from the statues even though the rug has no golden threads. Good to know it's not a hatchlu design but rather a medallion design with rectangular panels and garden design.

Beautiful rug and looks new or near new condition. Definitely not the knot count they stated, looks 20x20 so 400KPSI.

Wouldn't expect a Persian silk on silk rug to have a KPSI any less than that but at the price it's a good buy.

Agree with little-persia, nice rug but not the finest quality. Price was good.
