Hi, My wife's grandfather brought this rug home to the US from his travels in the 1970s. Is anyone familiar with this form of rug? The size (16ft x 12ft) and pile (> 1/2") seem unusual for rugs from the Rabat area. Two photos are: Overall rug and label on back. Is this worth of a formal appraisal (i.e. is it worth enough to insure?) jonathanT attached the following image(s):

Hi, welcome to the forum. It is a typical Rabat rug and your wife´s grandfather bought it new. Rugs like this one are in production until today. Large Rabats are usually the heart of the "Salon Marocain" - the formal audience room in a moroccan house. The rug is in the center of the room, surrounded by U shape couches and small tables. http://www.decosalonmaro.../deco%20salon%20marocain
