Duplicate rugs...how many rugs are created from each cartoon?

Now, I know this will be a hard question to answer, as it will vary a lot...I'm curious on high knot count rugs from Isfahan and the number of rugs generally created from each design. I have a 1940's rug that I know of 2 from the same design, but different colors. I have another which is more current and found identical on eBay, which made me want to ask this question.

The designs travel. Sometimes a lot. And not necessarily the same map, just a really amazing adaptation. Even in old carpets - like the design of enthroning of nader shah
