Greetings all. I am looking for a 9x12 rug to place in my living room, basically to keep there until I sell my house. I plan to sell later this year. At the moment I don't have a tremendous budget for a great rug so I'll save that purchase for my next house. I have an opportunity to get the rug in this auction for about half of what the seller is asking for. Should this concern me? Any risk here that this is some kind of fake and isn't worth even half of this asking price? I'm new to rugs and aside from knowing what I find aesthetically pleasing (and some small amount of info on material, construction type, dyes, etc) I'm very far from an expert.

What I do seem to notice is that there's some ungodly amount of markup in rugs in general, at least on ebay. I'm not expecting some incredible gem, I'm just trying to not get ripped off while covering my floor!

Thanks for your help!

It is an INDIAN carpet and a COPY of a Heriz carpet, which is why the price appears to be so low to you. The wool quality appears to be low and it is not fine as it would have very thick weft, which means that the density of the rug is very low, consequently it will wear out relatively quickly. That is the why the price is what it is. However, if you are still happy with it then buy it.

I cannot help but to give my opinion and this is purely personal. I think if you buy a worn original Heriz you will have a rug with a lot more character and decorative than the copy. I do understand that is more difficult in the US but you may find one in your local auction.
