It's tibetan knot, as of recent they make these in several countries and they all look virtually the same. Is there any background or information that came with the rug, perhaps even identification on the back?

Indian is very possible, as is Chinese. The large but tall knots on a diagonal are the Tibetan weave adapted. New this type of rug would have been rather costly in the States. Now, the market is soft but these are very good values
