Hi Ardo, What are your objectives with this rug? Negotiate? Or to know what is a good buying price? Please elaborate on condition - it looks quite nice, but any signs of wear will be of significant consequence....

Thanks for the prompt reply, I am looking forward to purchase it however given the price tag made me seek an expert advice about its value. The carpet is in very good condition with no wear at all. Also need to know if its authentic and old Mashad carpet.
Kind Regards Ardo

The forum is an excellent resource, however, when it comes to high value purchases you will likely be better advised to consult with a specialist for one-on-one discussion on a professional level.

It is important to be conservative when dating rugs as nick notes. However, I would not be so certain about age. There is real possibility the rug may be 70 years old or more. Without specifically addressing the rugs value there is great potential, but nothing that may be determined by quick glance.

I agree with Rugpro. But I do think it is a Mashad. When I first saw it I thought it was a Sherekat e Farsh piece because of the numbers. But it is signed Amoghli and if it is a real one, which I think it might be then it is a very good piece. It also has the number 110 written in the signature which denotes "Ya Ali" (the first Shia Imam). The only thing that worries me is that the wool does not seem to have much sheen to it and Amoghli pieces usually have high quality wool which have a very good sheen. But that could just be the photo and as Rugpro says a one to one expert advice where the piece can be seen and felt will be much better. For a real Amoghli about 70 to 80 years old it is not an unfair price but take heed of the provisos. First Floor, unit 9 1 Chandos Road London NW10 6NF UK www.sharafiandco.com
