Photos a little tribal Afghan rug that I would like to know more about.
Bought in Herat, Afghanistan.
It is very plush with both kilim (sp) and pile attributes.
Meshwani? Beluch? Maliki? Turkman?
I'm here to explore and learn more about this fascinating art.

It is a Meshwani. I don't think it is more than 10 years old. The production of these goods were dramatically increased about 10 years ago but I think they have slowed up again. The dyes appear to be chemical.

Of course I was told that they were all vegetable dyes.
No matter.
I love it.
I was told that the center "star" was good luck for whoever entered your house.
Yes I'm a sucker for a sales pitch.
It is in my front entry now.

Can you tell me about the wool used?
The fringe looks like goat wool mixed.
The rustic look appealed to me.
It does shine like good wool.

The wool quality is not actually too bad. The two colour fringe is very common in the new productions of Afghan, but it doesn't appear to have any goat hair. It is a pretty rug and the as far as the central star is concerned if you believe that it will bring you luck then who knows it might.
