I have this Afghan War Rug I have been wondering about. When I check on the internet, prices are all over the place, $1-200 on eBay to a couple thousand on some web sites. Apparently they are still being made in Afghanistan & Pakistan. Some with inscriptions about Sept 11. Somewhere I saw a reference to red ones being the valuable ones. In any case, I have had this for many years. Possibly before 9/11. I remember where I bought it and what I paid for it ($125) but I can't put it in context with the 9/11 events. Condition is fine, it has never been on the floor and I see no issues at all. Size is about 27 X 42". I am much obliged for any input on its quality and value.
Thanks,
Bruce

I have seen one sell for £4000. While there is certainly some novelty value to these things in terms of workmanship in my opinion they are not worth more than $300. I don't think the ground colour makes a lot of difference but the quality of the dye. They don't usually come in very fine.

Thank you. The colors are not shown their best in my photos. It was afternoon sunshine and quite contrasty. Quality of this rug is about mid-range among the various Afghan rugs I have had. They certainly are a bit of a novelty. Especially compared to the formal Persian designs I see on here. One website I was looking at was www.warrug.com Their prices are what I was wondering about.

Hi - this rug appears to be a bit more fresh in weave and style than the older Afghan War Rugs.

Thank you. It could be although I think I have owned it for probably 10 years. It is the only one I have, so there isn't much for me to compare it to. I don't see many of these at all. When I look on warrug and eBay, it seems they are still being made.
