I bought a Bijar from the 1930's. From its knots and ribbed corduroy structure in the back, clear crisp colors and heft, fringe and selvedge..it looks like a Persian Bijar. It is in perfect condition although I see some evidence of repairs to the fringe...those pics are included. The seller told me the rug came from a collection where the rug was never used. The pics are true to its colors. Is it all of the above and what are the clues to determining it's age?

I am sorry, I don't think this is Bijar, I don't think it is 1930's. There is a seller on ebay who is established and promotes these rugs as such, although based on weave, character, colors, etc. this appears to be a 1980's Goltug or something akin outside of Bijar Bijars. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just not quite what's stated.

RugPro,

Thank you very much for the quick identification.
I informed the seller that it was a 1980's Goltug and not a 1930's Bijar and will be returning the rug because it was not as described ...I wanted an older rug. He insisted it was Bijar and he got it from a dealer who had sold more than 2100 rugs and had 100% satisfaction. But I will be returning it.

In trying to understand the difference for the future, an article I read said Goltug's of this type have more geometric medallions and have a double weft going across each row. I'm not sure I see this in this rug. I want to understand this before I return it for my education. Anything else you can tell me to help me understand these rugs in the future?? any good articles???

Thanks a lot for your expertise-- so much to learn.

I agree with Rugpro. It is definitely not 1930s more like 1990s. It is a Zanjan. It's not a bad piece but not what the seller is claiming.

Whether or not Goltug does not have bearing as much as the fact that it is not an old rug - not like rare, just a lull in production. As a side note, anything 1930's is relatively hard to come by. Persia just didn't produce much then
