Can you tell me if this is an India made Bidjar design rug? I have not seen it yet and the pics attached are supplied by the seller who says his Mom bought it @15 years ago. It is an 18 by 12 and too big for his house. I can't tell by the pics if it has the typical double wefted Bidjar ribbed, corduroy back. The fringe looks a bit odd-- the klilim looks too thin. It has a cotton warp. I plan to see this tomorrow sometime. If you can tell what it is, that would be great.

Nick,

I agree-- the fringe looks machine made, but the rug back photo looks like a hand knotted rug--- too good to be true for $550.
I'll see tomorrow.

Thanks!

Could the fringe be an addition? When you look at it, it should be obvious from the back. If you do think it is Indian, be careful as used Indian rugs are hard to get good prices on. Big ones especially. Collectors like ones they can carry easily. Dealers too. And you need a crew to wash one.

Hand knotted, pile wool. Low grade quality. Made in India, typical commercial quality. These rugs were popular 1980 - 2000.
But for USD 550 not a bad deal if it has no moth damage or other issues.

Thanks everyone. I saw the rug and it is as KAD described..Indo. there was a small @7 by 5 inch area with moth damage...the guy had gone through a divorce and it was too big for his small ranch house. I told him what it was. It was not being stored properly so I fear it will only suffer until he can find a buyer.
