This is a rug I purchased last fall. It was a mess when I got it. Dirty, a big mark that looked like spilled coffee, etc. I washed it and it came out pretty good. I didn't get any color bleeds, but I do have a bunch of white knot ends coming up through the pile. I don't remember them being there before. I don't know what I should do about that, leave them, cut them, color them? I also stitched the one end where there is a bit of loss in the center. I used the Antwerp stitch in Peter Stone's book, puts a little knot at each stitch so it won't unravel. Have to be careful with it, if you pull the knots too tight you could pucker the rug. In any case, it is a Chinese Art Deco rug. I am wondering if it is a Nichols? I have read about Nichols having the side cords, or selvage in white, which this one does. But I don't know if that is definitive. There was no label on the back. I also saw mention somewhere about the white knot ends being a Nichols characteristic. Any opinions?
Thanks,
Bruce

Can't comment on it being a Nichols or not, but the white 'knot ends' tend to be the foundation (warp) showing through where it has been tied to join, or if it has split and re-tied on the loom.
