This is a large 11X17 carpet and is definitely a sarouk with the small blue weft. My question is what type of sarouk? I guess my question comes down to the age. Is it old enough to be a ferghan sarouk, and if not a fereghan sarouk, what would it be?

It is a Saruk but I think it is a Muhajjeran. It is a better one of this type of knotting

Thanks to both of you. I should have added the carpet has very closely cropped pile. From what I read the sarouk or even fereghan sarouk pile got longer as they transitioned to mahal, etc after 1900. Would the low cropping make a different decision. Fereghan's were also low cropped, but single wefted so I'm not at all thinking along those lines.

Thanks

No again, I know without a doubt that is not a fereghan, and of course I'd like it to be a fereghan sarouk.
One of my problems the terms are so misused. I see more marketing at times than description. From what I read there is no really definition of the type you named it, but a mismatch of styles. I am really not trying to talk myself into something, just trying to ask questions

Thanks

You are absolutely right when they want to sell its one thing and buying it's another. Muhajjeran is not a tight weave but a very good one with very limited production and sought after. The wool is very soft and shiny. In terms of durability and use I personally rate it much better than Farahan.
