A woman bought this rug in Okinawa back in 1995, she claims it is silk. I've asked her for additional photos which I will post when I receive them, but I would like to get everyone's first impressions about the design or a possible identification.

photo not too good but it looks to me it may be a machine made rug

Looks machine-made, probably viscose to me too, but as Nick said, photo isn't great.
