I bought this Bokhara rug in a local auction. It is 6x9 rug.
It is very soft and thin. Looks very fine like a quilt. I want to find out if there is anything special about this rug. This is my first rug that I bought in an auction without any prior knowledge about rugs. I looked up on your site and googled up a bit to figure out the name. However, it is not one of those typical Bokharas with tekke print, so want to find out if you can tell more about this if there is anything.

Another thing is, it is extremely dusty. I don't see any stains. The color is little uneven. It has a sheen and variation like velvet. When comb the wool, the colors are all the way till foundation so to my knowledge it may not have been colored or redyed. Should I get it washed ? I vaccumed it many times, but the dust seems to settle at the bottom.

I am enjoying discussions and knowledge gained thro' those posts. Thanks RugPro for your replies!

Really nice looking example. Good description on the color variation. Could have been a stain at one point? I would say inconsistencies in the dye, but it appeared to have rounder, vertical "migration" which would lead me to believe it's not dye lots, but some sort of agent which may have been spilled on it.

Either way, it's a cool piece. Signature does not affect value, but is kinda nice. As the tag says, and from what I see, this is a Pakistan carpet. It's NOT a Jaldar, which is good news. Those are the double knotted rugs where the knots are tied around two warps on either side. They call it a jufti knot. But this is a regular symmetrical knot which appears to be wrapped only around 1 warp on either side.

Can't recall the design off the top of my head, but it's typical repeating gul field which probably has a proper name that I just can't remember

and then the question that always comes up ... How much?

Thanks for all the info! I think I paid around $750 incl. taxes. At that time I didn't know so much about rugs..I am thinking I paid little too much. What do you think?

I don't think there are any stains, it is just some uneven/darker blotches here and there. I think it is something to do with the dye or due to some treatment all over the rug!

Is it safe to get it washed? Is there anything that I should know before giving it for a wash..!?

Tekke, Hatchli, Amu Darya, Naushka are some names associated to Turkmen/Bukhara rugs that I could find. Is it one of those?

krowGyrl, ..thanks for bringing up upside down signature...let me reload, for those who can read it!

Unfortunately not. Your carpet is made in India(near the town Amtirsar)

Hey bukhara. Even with the signature/writing you lean toward India as opposed to Pakistan?

RugPro, bukhara,

Jaldar (sometimes Peshawar) is in Germany the name for this kind of Pakistan rugs. I did not know that the kind of weaving gives this rugs a different name.
And if there are rugs like this coming from India i would call them Agra.
