My grandparents recently gave me one of their rugs, and I'd like to know what it is and if possible get a rough estimate of value. For as long as I can remember (30 years) it sat in their front hall. My grandmother said she purchased the rug for $150 from a showroom in CT in the 1950s. There is a tag on the back that says "made in Iran" so I'm assuming this is right (although I understand that labels are often faked). Is it machine made? I would love to know what kind of rug it is and anything else people might know. IThanks in advance for your help!

Okay, let's try this again. It seems all the pictures are the same! (And I posted twice--sorry about that! I can't figure out how to delete the original post without any attachments) Apologies!

so far as the type and age goes this is a pretty good one. Good design, good color variety, good saturation of colors, good alternating of color used in weaving, even weave. It's appears to be a Persian variety is spelled different ways - engelas, ingelas, etc probably from 1940. I think if you saw this carpet side by side with a typical hamadan type you would see a very big difference. Both are single wefted, but this would be considerably more sophisticated than a typical commercial grade rug of the time.

Would second the Engela call. Nice rug and looks like it's in decent condition. That $150 is probably equivalent to around £1300 today.
