I just purchased this rug today for $75 USD. I am genuinely curious about this pattern and the rug's origin. I plan to put it in my library, which is lightly used.

It is 12 ft 7 in x 9 ft 5 in. It appears to be made of wool. I don't see any tags or signature attached.

Any help? I've looked through several online compilations of rug identifications, but haven't seen anything similar.

Thank you in advance!

Katrina

I can't go back and edit my post and photos, so here is another better photo.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for your opinion. What characteristics make you think that this is machine made?

It looks almost like needlepoint to me; it doesn't have standard 'pile,' instead there is a stitched-like quality to the rug. The stitching is generally even, but there are definitely areas of inconsistency in the stitching.

Here is a close up of the front of the rug, showing the needlepoint-like nature of the rug.

OK, last photo because I've just put it down in my library, where I love it. It has such interesting little figures of birds, dogs and flowers. It is definitely adding some movement and life to the room, and it looks grand with the dark oak furnishings I have in there.

I can fold it up easily and it is very flexible and fairly light. I could easily carry it in all by myself, even though it is a large rug. It's definitely some type of needlepoint. The weave is completely flat,

If anyone can help me solve this mystery, I would be very grateful and buy you a pint if I ever visit the UK :) or if you come to Denver, we have some delicious handcrafted beers.
