Hello, I'm brand new to this forum.
I have been looking for a nice, old Heriz or Serapi for quite a while now and a carpet dealer who knows I'm looking sent me photos of yet another candidate, labeling it a "nice old Heriz". Well, I've just never seen anything like it. The red is a cool red, versus warm, the corner brackets are almost teal blue, and there's a feather in each of the corners that I have never seen anywhere before. When I queried the dealer about the colors and feather, his reply was, "It's a Tabriz Heriz about 70 years old. In the old days they made them in the villages (assume he meant Heriz) and later they moved to the city" (assume he meant Tabriz). So he's implying it was made in the 1940's in Tabriz but in the Heriz style? Dyes look synthetic but it is handknotted. It looks newer to me than 1940's, but I am a real neophyte. My gut is this is just a very nicely done, newer rug made ..?? anybody's guess.
Does anybody know anything about this rug? I actually LIKE it, bold as it is... I'll try to get more images - of the back, etc. but in the meantime would appreciate any feedback you can give. Particularly price, since this carpet dealer is a real old-fashioned carpet dealer. He expects loads of bargaining. Thanks! (how does one post photos?)
