The seller claimed this was a kashan 5X8 rug or dibri (sp) I bought it and paid a price gauged for a older nice decorative rug not as a particular collector item.

My research states there were two different type of elite city Kashan rugs made in the late 1800s early 1900. The research states it's not clear if there were actual workshops or just promotional to state a higher quality.

This is one case in which showing the rug'sfringe will not help since the fringe has been replaced to help stabilize the rug in a rather unique but professional manner.

Any information on the rug would be highly appreciate.

Thanks,

This rug was made in Kashmir, North India late 1970`s or early 1980´s. Wool on Cotton foundation. Fringes seem to be original, but pile condition (last Foto) seems to be distressed.

KAD over the years you've been very helpful and there is no question you're very knowledgeable, but in this situation I'm going to have to get a second opinion from someone who is actually seeing and touching the rug. The fringe is definitely replaced and I'll have to get the age checked. But again you've been very helpful over the years.

Looks more like Sarouk to me? How does it handle?

Looked at the Pictures again - old Kashan have blue wefts and different knot technic. Please post Close up Foto showing detail of fringe, shirazi and corner.
Still think it is Kashmir. But it is always a good idea to show it to some one in person.

With all due respect to CAD I tend to agree with Little Persia. I think it is a Saruk and it certainly is not C1900 and not in the best of conditions so hopefully you have not paid a lot of money for it.
