This rug was described on e-bay as made in the early 1900s by Armenian Christian nomads living around the shores of the Caspian Sea. Except for the presence of birds, it looks like a prayer rug to me. Would Christian Armenians be making Islamic prayer rugs? Any thoughts on this rug? Dimensions are 3'6" x 6'3". Thank you.

Yes, it is a prayer rug, but not armenian. It was made in North eastern Iran. My guess would be around the City of Ferdoz. In this area there are many kurdish poeple who where resettled from Kurdistan to this area in the late 1600`s to built a stronghold against mongolian tribes pushing into the persian empire. They took their designs withh them but were influenced by the local tribes such as Turkman and Balouch. Your rug has both - designs from Kurdistan and from Balouchistan.
