Hi,
I picked up this rug at the Bazaar today to add to my collection. This one caught my eye because it was a little more colorful than the other rugs. The center design on the rug isn't the same size on one side of the rug as the other. The center pattern on the bottom of the rug is larger than the part on the other side. I liked it because it wasn't even. Is it some type of large prayer rug because the center design "points" in a general direction? I know this is a Kunduz design, maybe about 40 years old, but otherwise I thought the design was mysterious because it wasn't even through the length of the rug. Any ideas about this design, price, or anything else signifcant in the design/orgin? (It is wool)
Thanks,
Laura

Your rug is a typical rug for this area, the design is called Hatschlu or Hatchlu - these rugs used to be used as doors for tents.

KAD,
Thanks but do you think that the color scheme means anything? All of these types of rugs I have seen in shops or online are all extremely red. This rug is far more colorful, which was the reason I purchased it. I figured the color scheme would mean it either costs less or more than the traditional rugs with a more normal color scheme.

appears to be a beautiful turkish rug... nice weave for such a tribal design... 5 x 8 looks like.... probably from the 60s at the oldest.... really nice colors... appraised price today approx $1200.

Hi Bob,
Thanks so much for the information. I really liked the colors too, it is why I bought it. Actually, excluding one runner I bought all of my rugs have been very colorful. I looked for ones that had numerous colors. Many of the afghan rugs have a LOT of red, and they were just too bold for me. I did not want a persian design, I liked the tribal look you mentioned. Anyhow, thanks for the feedback. So for you and KAD have set me off on the right direction abou this rug. Thanks so much!
