Hi,
I just picked up this rug today at a rug shop here in Kabul. This rug is used and I had them repair it along the sides before I brought it home. But now it looks fantastic! I was told that it was made by the Uzbek in the Kunduz region of Afghanistan and is maybe 60-65 years old. It is a 13 x 2.5 ft runner (in a yak khal pattern?). Can anybody confirm some of this information or know how much it may be worth? When I get back to the states I am planning on getting an appraisal when I drive through Houston or San Antonio.
Thanks!!
-Laura

Hello,
The design is Turkman. It could have been made by Uzbek weavers in Kunduz, certainly. There are Ersari Turkomen in that region, some of whom probably also identify as Uzbek. I couldn't guess what it's worth, but it's a nice looking rug.

Hey Bob,
Thanks for the appraisal. I paid 950, but I still have to ship it back to the states. So I came out even, which I'm happy with because this rug is older and it is less common than the newer rugs military personnel have bought over here in Afghanistan. I didn't want to buy rugs that everybody else was buying, I wanted something unique. I was looking for a cheap one, maybe $450 but when they pulled this one off of the wall I knew it was one I had to purchase. I'm happy with it and I'm sure my dogs will find comfort on it while laying in the hallway outside our bedroom at night :-p
Thank you very much
-Laura
