Qashqai Rug - Worth Repairing?

I have this Qashqai rug - estimated to be early 1900s by the guy I bought it from

Here is the front shot:

Here is the foundation:

It has one gash in the selvage:

It measures 41" x 82"

I bought it in a rush without as much knowledge as I'm getting now.

So my 3 questions are:

1. Is it a Qashqai? I think it is so far.
2. Do you think it is worth repairing?
3. Do you think it is really 100 years old?

or shiraz. when you say worth repairing... what is your goal with this piece?

It looks typically Qashqai. I can't say about age - not new, but could be anything from late 19th C. to mid-20th C. in my amateur opinion. If I were you, I would consider stabilizing it so no further loss occurs in the damaged area. I don't know how much it would cost to do a full restoration, but suspect it would be expensive. This is a nice rug, but not worth a fortune.

If one of the experts out there disagrees, it would be educational to hear it!

That is a good question - I didn't make that clear enough. I'd like to clean it up and make it a presentable piece of my home collection without spending more then in repairs then it is reasonable worth in a private party sale (just so I don't waste money). I spent $350 on it which may have been too much, but I liked it.

Thanks for your response - I agree that it should be stabilized first.

Per my earlier response to the other poster, I'd just like to make this nice enough to display in my house (but I'm a bit of a perfectionist). I just wanted to make sure I didn't get hosed at $350 and that spending another few $$$ to restore wouldn't more money on a bad investment.

Stabilize and keep an eye out for a donor rug to maybe patch as a hobby?

I rekon this nice, detailed and warm coloured carpet would be a very nice `wall carpet`; even without any repair...
