Hello everyone.
I would like to learn a bit about my new rug purchase from the more knowledgeable members of this site. I should mention that my interest in oriental rugs is new but I enjoy the beautiful designs and I certainly appreciate the time and attention that goes into the creation of each piece. I am currently in Afghanistan and started with the intention of purchasing a small rug as a souvenir. I visited several small stores and my eye was drawn to tribal style rugs. From what I've read, the knot counts on such rugs tend to be lower and the piles are not particularly thick, but they seem to have a rustic charm I did not find in other rugs I've been presented with. I paid about 260.00 USD for my rug. I hope I did well. I know the design is not particularly fancy, especially compared to what I've seen on this site, but I like it. The knot count appears to be 90 to 100 KPI depending on the location on the rug. The designs, while simple, appeared well executed and uniform as compared to the designs of other offerings which had many anomalies in the patterns. Could anyone inform me of the style of the rug? The merchant stated the rug originated near the Herat, Afghanistan area. I don't know if that information would help.
I know the pictures are terrible but the only camera I currently have access to is the webcam on my computer.
Any information would be most grateful and make me appreciate the piece even more.
Thank you.
