I bought this carpet about two months ago from Craigslist. It was from an estate sale and the seller did not know much about it. Mostly I bought it for it's size since my building requires 80% of the hardwood floors to be covered. From the research I've done I believe it was handmade but there is no insignia or tags on the underside of the carpet... I've been searching for carpet with a similar pattern but can't seem to find anything... which got me thinking more about the origin of this rug.

Whether or not it is indeed a true Persian rug, I am still enamored by the colors and pretty borders. Of course, I would love to know its value if any.

Details:

9'5" x 7'10"
Yellow deer, hummingbirds, vines, branches
Beige, creme, pinks, light blue
Appears to be handmade

Looking forward to your responses :)

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Your rug is a real persian / iranian handknotted rug. It is made from new wool (pile) and cotton (foundation). The city the rug was made is TABRIZ in north western Iran. The workshop is well known and the design, colors and way the rug was made make it easy to tell since it absolutely typical. The workshops name is TABATABAI. Due to the wear of your rug the value is somewhere between 100 and 200 USD in this condition.

Thank you for the response, KAD.

If I pay for a cleaning and reparations, do you think the value of the carpet will go up? Also, if I hold onto it as an investment, will the rug will eventually increase in value?

Thank you, again

For hygienic reasons it always makes sense to have a rug washed that you buy used. But investing in expensive repairs would not make sense since this rug will not rise in value.
