Hello,
I some questions about these two rugs, a Red one and a Blue one, for sale locally:
1. what are they and when were they made?
2. does anyone know anything about Khan International as a manufacturer?
3. what happened to the red one to cause fading and bleeding? Is that a sign of a bad dye job, alizarin dyes, or what?

Any comments the forum members care to make will be appreciated. It is always educational!
thanks,
Tim

For 1.
Both are "Bukhara" designed type rugs made in Pakistan. These rugs are made all over the country. They where probably made within the last 20 years. Due to the way they are made they usually are worn after a period of about 10 - 20 years if used regularly.

For 2.
There are many producers in Pakistan, from small 2 poeple workshops up to really larger producers. Khan is a very common name in Pakistan. I am not familiar with Khan International.

For 3.
First thought looking at the rug was it must have been a water damage or Abrash

But it would be very strange to have a water damage perfectly in the middle of the rug in a strait line. Also Abrash shows only in one color and not in all colors in a line. The only logical explaination is that the rug is a sample. I think the rug was used to test an antique wash. Half of the rug was washed and the other rug was untouched so the customer was able to see how the rug will change when washed. This is not made for a retail customer. It is usually made for producers or large scale importers it they want to wash larger amounts of rugs.
