Hello, I need help with this rug. Could anyone help identify it? The size is 49 inches wide, and the length is 80 inches. It has several worn areas and holes. I am new to rug collecting. Would it be worth it to repair them? What tribe/ area is itom, how old do you think it is, and what is it worth? Thanks so much for your help!

Looks like a Turkish Milas. Nice rug but wouldn't invest a lot of money in it, perhaps get the damage secured to prevent further loss if you're going to be using the rug.

Thanks so much for your time. The reason that I am still unsure of its area of origin is the two colored thread warp (light and dark brown) which seems to be only Shirvan weave style. http://www.bukhara-carpe...g/caucasian-carpets.html
Also, if it is a Turkish Milas/Melas, could it be a valuable antique? The reason I ask is the presence in several places of purple/violet, http://www.spongobongo.com/em/nm/eme9942.htm
o'connell says is for a pre 1870's rug using cochineal
I'm sorry to ask so many questions, I have been obsessing over rugs for a bit now...but I'm afraid I don't have knowledge or experience.

I agree with Little Persia. It looks like caucasian and it has Kazak infuence in design, bit the border tells the origin. It is western anatolian, and Melas area is very likely. You must differ between a repair and a retsoration. A repair would fix the defects so they don`t get worse. A wash would bring back quite a bit of beauty. These things are not very expensive and would make sence. A restoration is a lot more difficult and cost more than the rugs value. I think it is probably made in the 1930-40`s.
