Hello. This is a carpet that I was asked to enquire about. I am positive that it was bought in East Germany in the 1970s. The carpet is well preserved with only some sign of wear. The colours are very deep and vivid. I have looked at kashans in several online shops and think that it's one of them. Could someone perhaps have a look at the photos? The owners are also planning to sell it if they can make at least 1000 euros. Well, this where I have to refer to you experts. Thanks.

I forgot to mention that it's roughly 3x2m. Thanks.

The rug is machine made, not handmade. If it was bought in East Germany, it is probably a rug made by VEB Halbmond (Halbmond Teppichwerke). The design is persian / iranian, but not Kashan. The design was taken from the Ardebil rug in the Victoria and Albert museum in London. The design is also known as Sheik Safi design from the mosque of Sheik Safi in Ardebil, where the rug was found. Most handmade rugs with this design sold today are from Tabriz and Kashmir / India. The maximun value of a rug like the one poted is 100 Euro.

Thanks a lot for the clarification. I think they will just keep it because the rug is very pretty even if not hand-made or persian. Thanks KAD.
