Any info about it would be nice.
I am planning on using it a high traffic area.
I just want to make sure its not a collectible type carpet
before i release the kids on it.
Thanks
Rusty

Definity not a sarouk. You can tell, if this was a sarouk, the back side would be a lighter shade of red.
You could have a machine made rug with moth damage. Let the kids run loose unless they are toddlers and then you might want to clean it first.

Your rug is a Sarouk, if Sarouk is used as a definition for the greater area around the city of Arak / Sulatanabad where the rugs of the Sarouk design type where collected and sold. The knots look like it was made in Serabend or maybe in Mahal. The design is inspired by the typical workshop Sarouks made for export to the US, but it is not as fine and has lower quality wool. It was probably made around 1935 - 45. It has mayor moth damage, so make sure to have this problem solved before you bring it in your house. If you don`t get the insects killed first, they may damage your good made of wool at home. The end that has no fringes is the end where the rugs production was started. This fabric is called Kilim (it is a woven stripe to have all the knots made in one row). Often when the rug is finished, the kilim is opened by removing the weft - then you have fringes. It is very typical that Sarouk rugs have this unopend kilim. Over all a nice rug, if you have it cleaned and moth protected I guess not only your children but also your grandchildren will play on this rug.
