This rug confuses me. The handle is very light. If I shake one corner the wave goes to the reverse corner and this is a 10X12' rug. Also the elements are sparse which I've read today is a sign of age. At the same time the colors are muted somewhat but not as much as most old heriz I've seen
Lots of color and I like the blue spandel if I've spelled that correctly

I've also been told sometimes it's hard to tell the age of a heriz. The border seems oxidized

Thanks for any help

Post some images of the rug and I will give you my thoughts. I do not claim to be an expert on Heris rugs but I think it would be safe for me to claim that I know them much much better than many dealers of Persian rugs.

An old, beautiful Heris rug. The blue color of corners is a clear indication this rug is about 70-75 years old. The design of the border is that of traditional Heris rugs, with wonderful colors. Enjoy it.

This looks like it is a 1940's northwest Persian carpet made in or around the area of Heriz

I know serapi is many times falsely used to inflate the value of a heriz rug much like using a "royal baluch" but I am not that familiar with serapi as a defined rug. This rug has a lighter handle than I would expect from a 75 year old heriz (I'm acting like I've seen that many 75 year old heriz which I haven't)Would a serapi have a lighter handle?

Thanks for all of your help

Dozens of weaving villages closely surrounded the area of Heriz during the time this carpet was woven. Serapi was never one of them; Serapi seems to generally be a term used to relate pre-1900 Northwest Persian rectilinear "Heriz" style village carpets as being more desirable. Perhaps finer in density or more 'choice' in aesthetics.
