2X3 Farsi is interpreted as Emarat (an Arab word for buider or emar territory) Dariush 7
The figure is King Darius fighting evil or what Westerners would call the devil
The image comes from one of the palaces that King Darius built

King Darius was a persian King whoe kingdom streached throughout the Arab world to Greece and who battled against
Alexander the Great.

I'm not sure how the emarat fits in nor the 7. He ruled with 6 provinces ruled by six govenors so possibly the six plus Darius would make seven. King Darius is also in the Old Testament placing Daniel in the lion's den after Daniel was to be elevated to one of the six govenors until envy struck.

My question is on the age, if anyone would have a clue on the amarat or 7 and the role of commenative rugs. It's a nice eclectic piece even if a person doesn't care about King Darius. I've loved the discovery process with this rugha
This would seem to have more overall appeal than a Iranian poet's image.

Yes of course this is an old piece, but considering the shape it is in, with the worn pile and everything, please do not get too much attached to it. An old rug attracts considerable value only, and only, if it is in good condition. I would be surprised if you could get more than $20 for this rug.

Actually I have become attached to it and that is why "$20" isn't bad news. At that price I'll keep it hanging with some other electic items. I think you'd be surprised at how good it looks in person

However, I hope you're still around since I'm going to put on an old heriz of a much different caliber. Would appreciate any commnents

Glad to hear it looks good with other stuff you have. Pieces of Persian and Oriental rugs look their best in the right surroundings. Post your "Heris" and I will be here to see it.
