It appears to be painted in image 005 where you can see the pile. Note the ivory area with dark navy outline with some paint inside

I was looking at everything but the obvious. The handle is lighter than my other. the pile is cut closer and the back of the rug carries much more color than I'm used t0. But th obvious is what you've mentioned

A sarouk from the 1940's. Color run may indicate a later touch up, or colorfast issue from washing
