Hi, this is another of my grandfather's old rugs and probably the most interesting one. When he bought it around 1950 it was already over 100 years old. It is very worn unfortunately. I would like to know it's approximate age and how to determine it, if anyone can help. My mom thought he called it the old Ispahan or Farahan, I looked in a book and found that floral pattern is called a Herati and is typical of a Ferahan, is that where it is from?

In Mexico City.
at $2 per square foot it is going to cost me 540 just to clean this behemoth!
can you tell me anything about it's age, is 160 years about right or do you think it might me older? it looks like it could be.
are collectors interested in pieces like this one, and would you consider restoration?
all comments welcome!

decorative market here would like it, but its not worth repairing. it is malayer from the farahan plains persia. maybe 1850's but I would say 1880's as it is slightly coarse for the type and other indications do not appear this old although possibly could be, somewhat unlikely. size is very difficult to sell, today's market price would indicate low compared to what many retail sellers ask as they likely have more invested from an old purchase. private party $1000 - 1500 would be fair if no dry areas, rot, etc. regardless, it is a nice piece to see on the forum, despite worn areas, etc.
